RAY ALLEN HEADS TO BOSTON

The Boston Celtics acquired guard Ray Allen, and the rights to forward Glen Davis from the Seattle SuperSonics for guard-forward Wally Szczerbiak, guard Delonte West and the rights to forward Jeff Green.

What does it give the Boston Celtics
The Celtics get a chance to make the playoffs. It's easy to see this as another dud of a deal for Boston because Allen is aging fast, but the truth is he is probably good for one or two more runs to the postseason. This deal also keeps Paul Pierce happy for awhile, and will give the team's solid young core another veteran to look up to and take the pressure off. Losing out on Green may hurt, but Beantown is already loaded with young talent and Big Baby will be a nice depth addition and fan fave in Boston.

What does it give the Seattle SuperSonics
Hope. The Sonics have, in one night, transformed their team. Not only did they draft cornerstone Kevin Durant, they get a player in Green who has possible All-Star potential. The two comprise Seattle's new core going forward, and Szczerbiak and West bring veteran depth. Wally World helps make up for the probable departure of free agent Rashard Lewis, and West brings insurance (at the very least) for the likely trade of Luke Ridnour. Allen will be missed in the short term, but this is all about the long term for Seattle.
