BOBS GET WARRICK FROM HORNETS FOR CARROLL
The Charlotte Bobcats acquired combo forward Hakim Warrick from the New Orleans Hornets for shooting guard Matt Carroll.
What does it give the Charlotte Hornets
Charlotte is a very young and athletic team, and while Warrick is a journyeman he's a much better overall fit for the up-tempo Bobs than Carroll was. Warrick can step in right away and provide needed depth and energy at both forward spots, and his length and leaping ability will help out at both ends. Carroll was a valued locker-room vet but wasn't a rotation regular. Charlotte adds some salary here (as Warrick has two seasons left on his deal, compared to one for Carroll) but Warrick could well provide a valued veteran boost on the court.
What does it give the New Orleans Pelicans
Mostly this move gives the Hornets more financial flexibility after this season, since it frees up about $4,000,000 once Carroll's single-season pact expires. Warrick was barely playing for the young Hornets, so they won't lose much on the court here. Meanwhile Carroll can be a good perimeter shooter in spurts if needed, and his leadership should be a definite asset for this young squad.
Fantasy impact
It will be surprising if Carroll suddenly re-appears on the fantasy radar as a result of this trade, but Warrick might; the Bobcats aren't a very deep team and Warrick has the raw talent to play regular minutes for them. Warrick's addition likely lessens the already-modest fantasy fortunes of {P Tyrus Thomas}, {P Jeffery Taylor}, and {P Reggie Williams}. Meanwhile little will likely change for even the least-used Hornets players.
