MAVS NAB MORROW FROM HAWKS FOR DAHNTAY
The Dallas Mavericks acquired shooting guard / forward Anthony Morrow from the Atlanta Hawks for shooting guard / forward Dahntay Jones.
What does it give the Dallas Mavericks
Last season the Mavs were more productive from 3-point range than they are this season (going from 7th in treys made to 12th this year). That makes Morrow a potentially valuable role player for them, as he is one of the NBA's more talented (if streaky) perimeter shooters. The fact he also has an expiring contract (like Jones, who heads the other way) is also appealing for the Mavs if they want to free up funds this summer.
What does it give the Atlanta Hawks
Morrow's usual role as perimeter specialist was mostly taken over by {P Kyle Korver} this season, so he became expendable. Enter Jones, who is more of a gritty man-to-man defender type like current starting Hawks swingman {P DeShawn Stevenson}. He brings some veteran grit to the Hawks, and like Morrow is on an expiring deal (so gives his new team some flexibility).
Fantasy impact
Morrow has a chance to re-energize himself and his career in Dallas, presuming he can find a role quickly in the Mavericks' muddled rotation. If he does, expect some of Dallas' younger role players (such as {P Jae Crowder}) to see fewer minutes going forward. While Jones should bring leadership and depth to Atlanta's reserve unit, he won't likely produce much even if he sees more opportunities.
