GRIZZ AND T-WOLVES SWAP BACKUPS

The Memphis Grizzlies acquired shooting guard Wayne Ellington from the Minnesota Timberwolves for forward/center Dante Cunningham.

What does it give the Memphis Grizzlies
Ellington showed enough last season in Minny to suggest he can be a solid regular backup at shooting guard for the Grizz. He's a good 3-point shooter, and Memphis lost a lot of treys when {P O.J. Mayo} signed with the Mavericks. Expect Ellington to potentially become a seventh or eighth man for Memphis due to his ability from the arc. Cunningham was movable after Memphis re-upped with big men {P Marreese Speights} and {P Darrell Arthur} this off-season.

What does it give the Minnesota Timberwolves
Minnesota's front line has undergone a transformation this off-season and with a half-dozen of their frontcourt players from last season now gone, they need a player like Cunningham for quality depth at power forward and center. That said, it's unclear if Minny intends to keep Cunningham, as they're rumored by several reports to be angling for {P Andrei Kirilenko} (and may need more cap room).
