PORTLAND PICKS UP SCORER CRABBE
The Portland Trail Blazers acquired the rights to shooting guard Allen Crabbe from the Cleveland Cavaliers for two future second-round draft picks.
What does it give the Portland Trail Blazers
The Blazers have one of the better young starting units in the NBA but struggled to get much from their bench. Enter Crabbe, a well-developed jump-shooter who can pile up points for Portland off the bench. While he isn't guaranteed a contract as a second-round pick, Crabbe was widely seen as a first-round talent and he seems likely to make the Blazers' roster. Great depth pickup by Portland here.
What does it give the Cleveland Cavaliers
After adding some superb talent in earlier picks {P Anthony Bennett} and {P Sergey Karasev}, the Cavs miss out on a solid talent here in Crabbe but they made up for it by landing the more defensively-minded {P Carrick Felix} a couple of picks after this one (and Karasev fills their need for a wing scorer). Getting two future picks for Crabbe is a solid haul for the future. All-in-all a great draft for the Cavs.
Fantasy impact
Crabbe could be very effective as a sixth or seventh man early on for Portland, since he is a proven scorer and will probably be in a scoring role off the bench this season. Keep him in mind as a late-round sleeper. His arrival is probably not great news for second-year swingman {P Will Barton}, who didn't make much of a splash last season. Nothing changes for Cleveland fantasy-wise with this deal.
