SIXERS PICK UP PROSPECT WHITE FROM ROCKETS

The Philadelphia 76ers acquired combo forward Royce White, the draft rights to Furkan Aldemir, and cash from the Houston Rockets for future draft considerations.

What does it give the Philadelphia 76ers
The Sixers seem to be regrouping after last year's disappointing results and White is an intriguing talent. That said, he's also a very risky prospect following an equally disappointing rookie campaign with the Rockets that saw White regularly clash with Houston brass over how to best handle his anxiety disorder. White didn't play a single game in Houston so he's obviously far from a sure thing here. That said, if White can manage to get comfortable with his new team and get things back on track, he brings a rare skill-set for a big man and could be a part of Philly's young rotation. Aldemir is an energy forward who might be a part of the Sixers' long-term depth plans.

What does it give the Houston Rockets
Houston has gone all out to become a contender (trading for {P James Harden} last year and then signing {P Dwight Howard} this summer), so they're obviously focused on both cutting salary and ensuring there are no distractions for the coming campaign. White's situation with the team made for a lot of headlines and he didn't play at all for the big club, so the Rockets are essentially moving on (which has to be hard to swallow since he was a first-round draft pick). They obviously don't get much here for him and the rights to the gritty Aldemir, but it's all about 'contending now' for Houston.

Fantasy impact
If the 76ers can come to a quick and amicable agreement with White on how his anxiety disorder will be handled, he might prove to be a steal for them in a couple of seasons. He doesn't appear ready to be a regular in 2013-14, however (due to his lack of progress last season in both the NBA and the D-League), but a few years from now might be a rotation regular. Aldemir projects as an energetic defensive forward off the bench (when and if he makes the jump to the NBA). Obviously there is no fantasy change for the Rockets, since White didn't play in a single NBA contest last season.
