PELICANS PICK UP RUSS SMITH FOR PIERRE JACKSON
The New Orleans Pelicans acquired the draft rights to combo guard Russ Smith from the Philadelphia 76ers for the draft rights to point guard Pierre Jackson.
What does it give the New Orleans Pelicans
Smith is an underrated talent who might one day be a starter in the NBA, but for now he'll back up {P Jrue Holiday} and compete with {P Austin Rivers} for minutes. Smith could well prove to be a steal here, although Jackson too has some untapped promise.
What does it give the Philadelphia 76ers
The Sixers actually selected Jackson in last year's draft (in the second round) so they're familiar with him. For now he remains an unsigned draftee, but might get a look as a backup to {P Michael Carter-Williams} (especially after looking great in the D-League this past season).
Fantasy impact
Smith probably has more fantasy potential than Jackson for the upcoming NBA campaign, but both are stuck behind starters on their respective new clubs. Both are worth deep sleeper attention, however.
