SIXERS TAKE THABEET'S CONTRACT FROM THUNDER
The Philadelphia 76ers acquired center Hasheem Thabeet and cash from the Oklahoma City Thunder for a protected 2nd-round draft pick in 2015 and a trade exception worth $1.25 million.
What does it give the Philadelphia 76ers
The Sixers aren't expected to keep Thabeet following this transaction, so this deal is about the cash. Philly already has two promising potential stars in the post (in {P Joel Embiid} and {P Nerlens Noel} ) so they're essentially just getting cash in return for helping the Thunder move Thabeet's affordable contract off the books.
What does it give the Oklahoma City Thunder
Essentially the Thunder add a bit of cap space here; the draft pick isn't great but is an asset, and the trade exception allows the team to acquire a player salary worth $1.25 million in a trade over the next year, without having to send salary the other way. The Thunder developed Thabeet over the past couple of seasons in obvious hopes the former top prospect would become a dominant shot-blocker. It didn't quite happen, and with {P Steven Adams} moving past him on the depth chart last season, Thabeet became expendable.
Fantasy impact
Assuming Thabeet lands with a new team after he's waived by the Sixers, he has some deep sleeper appeal thanks to his shot-blocking potential. No other players are likely to see any fantasy fallout from this swap.
