BOGANS KEEPS MOVING, LANDS WITH SIXERS
The Philadelphia 76ers acquired swingman Keith Bogans and a 2018 second-round draft pick from the Cleveland Cavaliers for a protected 2015 second-round draft pick and a trade exception.
What does it give the Philadelphia 76ers
Bogans hasn't been a rotation regular for any NBA team since the 2010-11 season, and at 34 years old he may not have much left in the tank. That said, he may actually prove to be a solid veteran bench addition for the mostly inexperienced Sixers. Since his contract is no guaranteed it won't be surprising if Bogans is waived, but Philly doesn't have much depth at shooting guard and his leadership might be valuable.
What does it give the Cleveland Cavaliers
For Cleveland this move is about financial flexibility. They shed the $5-plus million salary of Bogans (which is not guaranteed this season or next season) and in the process get a trade exception worth $5.3 million. That means over the next year the Cavs can trade for a player whose salary is roughly that amount, and they don't have to move equal salary in the opposite direction (which is usually the case in NBA trades). This trade also helps the Cavs stay under the salary cap.
Fantasy impact
Even if Bogans somehow finds himself seeing rotation minutes this season with the 76ers, it's highly unlikely he'll provide any fantasy value. The same was true for him in Cleveland, so there's little to no fantasy impact as a result of this trade.
