NATE FOR NELSON: NUGGETS, CELTS SWAP BACKUP GUARDS
The Boston Celtics acquired combo guard Nate Robinson from the Denver Nuggets for combo guard Jameer Nelson.
What does it give the Boston Celtics
Robinson doesn't appear likely to stay with the Celtics this season, as he's an established veteran and Boston is in major overhaul-with-youth mode. The key here for the Celts is Robinson's contract expires after this season (while Nelson's had another year on it), so it'll be easier to buy out Robinson than it would have been to buy out Nelson.
What does it give the Denver Nuggets
Robinson didn't pan out as star Ty Lawson's backup this season, so perhaps Nelson can be a better fit. Then again, it will be surprising if the Nuggets keep Nelson around long since, like the Celtics, they now seem to be in 'sell/rebuild' mode. Don't be surprised if Nelson is packaged in another deal soon.
Fantasy impact
This trade has few fantasy implications if any. Nelson and Robinson have both been disappointing role players this season, and that doesn't look likely to change even if either winds up in a better fantasy situation at some point the rest of the way.
