DRAGIC MOVES TO MIAMI IN MULTI-PLAYER DEAL
The Miami Heat acquired point guard Goran Dragic and shooting guard Zoran Dragic from the Phoenix Suns for two first-round draft picks (one in 2017, one in 2021), plus point guard Norris Cole, small forward Danny Granger, and center Justin Hamilton.
What does it give the Miami Heat
Point guard Dragic is a star who gives the Heat an impressive new 'Big Three' (along with Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade). Add in emerging center Hassan Whiteside and quality veteran small forward Luol Deng, and Miami now quietly boasts arguably the deepest starting unit in the Eastern Conference. With Goran recently publicly stating his desire to be traded, the Heat swoop in here and get the star they wanted for a deep postseason run. This is a steal. His brother Zoran isn't as much of a factor, but obviously they're seen by both teams as a package deal.
What does it give the Phoenix Suns
Cole has already been flipped to New Orleans, and with the Suns also moving point guard Isaiah Thomas at the deadline it's clear Phoenix is moving on full-steam from their Dragic days and on with their future plans. That said, they're still in the playoff picture (although it looks unlikely any of the newcomers in this Dragic deal will help much with that push).
Fantasy impact
Dragic gets a solid fantasy boost from this move, since he's projected to play bigger minutes with the Heat than he was with the Suns. His arrival hurts the fantasy prospects of Mario Chalmers. On the Phoenix side of things, new Suns guard Brandon Knight probably sees a jump in production (but please see the following trade analysis of his deal from Milwaukee to Phoenix). As mentioned, the duo of Granger and Hamilton isn't likely to curry much playing time in its new environs.
