STAUSKAS TO SIXERS IN 5-PLAYER, 7-ASSET SWAP
The Philadelphia 76ers acquired combo guard Nik Stauskas, combo forward Carl Landry, power forward/center Jason Thompson, a top-10 protected 1st-round draft pick in 2018, and the right to swap 1st-round picks with Sacramento in 2016 and 2017 from the Sacramento Kings, for the draft rights to center/power forward Arturas Gudaitis and the draft rights to combo forward Luka Mitrovic.
What does it give the Philadelphia 76ers
The Sixers remain in full-on rebuilding mode, and this is typical of the type of deal they do lately. Above all they get a young starter-level talent in Stauskas, who can play either backcourt position and provide much-needed outside shooting and scoring. Landry and Thompson should also help the rebuild in the short term, but this deal is just as much about the draft picks (including the '18 first-rounder, and the ability to switch picks--and move up--in '16 and '17).
What does it give the Sacramento Kings
For the Kings this trade is mostly about opening up salary cap space, and they open up a lot of it: roughly $16 million. That lets Sacramento position itself as a potentially major player in free agency this summer. They also add the contract rights to two very promising big men, Gudaitis and Mitrovic. Moreover, Gudaitis and Mitrovic were second-round selections in this year's draft (and so don't get guaranteed contracts until they sign with Sacto), which also helps the Kings' books.
Fantasy impact
Stauskas can probably easily lead next season's Sixers in scoring (and possibly assists), so this deal gives his fantasy value a major bump upwards. Thompson and Landry should also see increased production and roles, although probably not as much as Stauskas. On the 76ers this trade probably hurts the fantasy value of combo guard Tony Wroten and swingman Robert Covington (who were Philly's top scoring options before Stauskas arrived). For the Kings there's not a lot of fantasy fallout (since all three players moved were backups for Sacramento, and the two newcomers appear far from NBA-ready). Plus, it's clear Sacto isn't close to finished changing its roster this off-season.
