HINRICH & MACK FIND NEW TEAMS IN 3-SQUAD SWAP
In a three-team trade, the Atlanta Hawks acquired point guard Kirk Hinrich from the Chicago Bulls; the Utah Jazz acquired point guard Shelvin Mack from the Atlanta Hawks; and the Chicago Bulls acquired guard/forward Justin Holiday from Atlanta, and a 2nd-round draft pick in 2018 from Utah.
What does it give the Atlanta Hawks
The Hawks have turned out to not be major sellers at this trade deadline (as many expected), instead essentially adding a quality veteran point-man in Hinrich (while moving out the less-experienced Mack). This suggests they still have aspirations to contend this season.
What does it give the Utah Jazz
The Jazz has been looking for a veteran point guard for awhile now, and while Mack isn't a star he should be a nice complement to young playmakers Raul Neto and Trey Burke the rest of this season (and in the playoffs, should Utah qualify).
What does it give the Chicago Bulls
The second-round pick in '18 is a minor asset for the Bulls' future, but it's hard to otherwise see what Chicago is trying to do here. Holiday has some underrated role player potential, but he's not a solution for the Bulls in either the short term or long term. The key here was obviously moving Hinrich's contract.
Fantasy impact
Hinrich is likely stuck behind Jeff Teague and Dennis Schroder in the Atlanta rotation, so his role may be more as a positive locker room vet than as an on-court contributor. At his age and with his injury history, it's hard to see Hinrich getting major minutes in any scenario down the stretch. Equally, his departure from the Bulls doesn't free up many minutes for anyone. For the Jazz, it's equally difficult to see Mack providing a lot of fantasy value the rest of the way (even if he manages a bigger role than he had in Atlanta). Schroder's and Neto's fantasy values stay the same. With Chicago, Holiday's non-fantasy-relevance doesn't change.
