SIXERS, HEAT SWITCH FIRST-ROUND PICKS
The Philadelphia 76ers acquired forward Jason Smith from the Miami Heat for guard Daequan Cook, a second-round draft pick in 2009 and cash considerations.
What does it give the Philadelphia 76ers
The Sixers get a promising post player in Smith, one who they can probably use a lot more than they might have used Cook. He isn't really ready for prime time yet, but has the talent to eventually be a starter for Philly sometime down the road. They already got the forward they need in Thaddeus Young, so this is a strong depth pick-up for a team that is getting younger and more athletic in a hurry.
What does it give the Miami Heat
The Heat get a nice perimeter scorer in Cook who may be able to step up and give them some depth behind Dwyane Wade. Smith probably has more upside over the long term, but the Heat obviously needed the cash as well. They may regret this one if Smith pans out like many scouts suggest he might.
