KINGS ACQUIRE McCANTS

The Sacramento Kings acquired guard Rashad McCants and forward/center Calvin Booth from the Minnesota Timberwolves for forward/center Shelden Williams and guard Bobby Brown.

What does it give the Sacramento Kings
McCants is a talented player who will provide solid backup help for scoring star Kevin Martin at shooting guard (but not after this season if the Kings decide not to keep him after his contract expires). Booth is a less-promising option for the rest of this season, but his $1.3 Million salary from this season gets cleared from the salary cap come summer-time, providing even more economic flexibility for the busy Kings.

What does it give the Minnesota Timberwolves
The T-Wolves don't likely have a big role for the underachieving Williams, but his $3.4 Million salary for this season comes off the books when he becomes a free agent in the summer, which will help Minny's salary cap situation. Brown has an option to stick with the team for next season, and is a very affordable and intriguing prospect who can back up Sebastian Telfair at the point.
