NETS, HAWKS, THUNDER EXCHANGE DRAFTEES

In a three-team trade, the Atlanta Hawks acquired the rights to guard Jordan Crawford from the New Jersey Nets and cash considerations from the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Nets acquired the rights to forward Damion James from the Hawks and the Thunder acquired Tibor Pleiss.

What does it give the Atlanta Hawks
James is a higher-upside player than Crawford, so it's hard to like what the Hawks have done with this deal. In Jordan Crawford, the Hawks receive a solid (if not great) prospect at shooting guard, who may become the primary backup to Jamal Crawford if starter Joe Johnson leaves this summer via free agency. The cash should help pay his rookie contract.

What does it give the New Jersey Nets
This is a very nice swap overall for the Nets. James is an NBA-ready player with starter potential (although he'll likely be a backup for them early on), while Crawford does not appear to have as much potential. Losing the high-upside Pleiss isn't a positive, but the Nets clearly didn't want to pay for three rookie contracts (since they also drafted Derrick Favors).

What does it give the Oklahoma City Thunder
All the Thunder gave up here was cash, and in return they get one of the draft's higher-upside long-term pivot prospects in Pleiss, a true center who has really emerged this year playing in Germany. Pleiss has the goods to eventually be an above-average NBA starter (if all goes well), so picking him up here for just cash is another steal for the Thunder.
