LEE HEADS TO GOLDEN STATE

The Golden State Warriors acquired forward/center David Lee from the New York Knicks for forwards Kelenna Azubuika, Anthony Randolph, forward/center Ronny Turiaf, and a second-round pick in 2012.

What does it give the Golden State Warriors
Golden State was the NBA's worst team for rebounding last season (at just 38.4 per game), which makes Lee a prized pick-up for them. He had the league's third-most rebounds in 2009-10 (949, or 11.7 per game), and is more than athletic enough to play Golden State's full-court style. He also gives the Warriors a veteran leader and a long-needed dependable post scorer who can shore up a position (power forward) that was mostly a revolving door last season.

What does it give the New York Knicks
This is a great bunch of assets for a sign-and-trade deal (since Lee was leaving regardless). Essentially New York swaps Lee at power forward for the more-athletic (and defensively better) Randolph, who has real star potential. Randolph has a chance to start immediately and could do wonders for New York as a help defender. Meanwhile Turiaf is a tough leader who can shore up the paint (backing up both big-man positions), and once Azubuike heals up from knee surgery he will be a solid depth swingman and a nice fit for New York's up-tempo approach. The second-rounder is a solid (if not great) bonus.
