T-WOLVES ADD BENCH GUARD
The Minnesota Timberwolves acquired guard Beno Udrih from the San Antonio Spurs for a 2008 second-round draft pick.
What does it give the Minnesota Timberwolves
In Udrih the T-Wolves get a talented and underrated point guard with a good outside shot. His game is actually pretty similar to that of current Minny backup Marko Jaric, in that Udrih can be an offensive catalyst but needs to work on his consistency. Udrih made an impression in three years with the Spurs despite rarely playing, and he has the goods to be a real gem for the Timberwolves. Expect him to get a look in Minny's rebuilt backcourt.
What does it give the San Antonio Spurs
The Spurs have become masters of using second-round picks to mine talented NBA prospects, so a second-rounder for them is a first-rounder for other teams. Udrih never really won the full favor of head coach Gregg Popovich, and his $1.75 Million contract made him expendable on a cost-conscious San Antonio team. With the younger, less-expensive Darius Washington waiting in the wings, the Spurs said goodbye to Udrih.
