GRIZZ LAND NAVARRO

The Memphis Grizzlies acquired guard Juan Carlos Navarro from the Washington Wizards for a furture first-round draft pick.

What does it give the Memphis Grizzlies
In Navarro the Grizz get a very slick and accomplished combo-guard who is in his prime. He has the overall game to start right away for Memphis, probably at point guard while Mike Conley Jr. learns the NBA game. Navarro is very nice pickup for the Grizz because he may help keep fellow countryman and pal Pau Gasol happy. He's also a very smart, cagey scorer who may be the next Manu Ginobili. A great trade for Memphis.

What does it give the Washington Wizards
In the first-round pick, the Wiz get a nice return on a long-term investment. They've held the rights to Navarro since 2002, and in the interim he has become one of the best non-NBA players on the planet. He was originally a second-round pick (No.40 overall in '02) and Washington is already deep at the guard positions, so a first-rounder is a nice payoff for a player who wasn't in their plans.
