T-WOLVES TRADE FOYE TO WIZ
The Minnesota Timberwolves acquired the fifth selection in the 2009 draft, center Etan Thomas and forwards Darius Songaila and Oleksiy Pecherov from the Washington Wizards for guards Randy Foye and Mike Miller.
What does it give the Minnesota Timberwolves
This is a bold move by new Timberwolves boss David Kahn, in that he gives up two above-average guards with star power to essentially give his team more options in this year's NBA Draft. That's not to say Thomas, Songaila, and Pecherov aren't serviceable; but it's clear Kahn doesn't mind giving up significant talent in order to add more young assets in the draft and potentially trade the newly-acquired pick to move up for a coveted player. Miller wasn't working out well in Minny and Foye's early career with the T-Wolves was disappointing.
What does it give the Washington Wizards
The Wizards won a dismal 19 games last season, mostly because of injuries to key stars. But with Gilbert Arenas, Caron Butler, and Antawn Jamison healthy and joining Foye and Miller, the Wiz have five bona fide stars. Look for Foye or Miller to start at shooting guard (and for the other to play sixth man), and for the Wiz to suddenly make some serious noise in the East again (health permitting).
