ARENAS DEALT TO MAGIC FOR LEWIS

The Orlando Magic acquired combo guard Gilbert Arenas from the Washington Wizards for combo forward Rashard Lewis.

What does it give the Orlando Magic
The Magic are clearly trying to boost their scoring, and getting Arenas for Lewis should help with that right away. While Lewis is a talented perimeter shooter, Arenas is just as good, yet is also a very active passer who can play the point when Jameer Nelson is resting. Arenas has proven this season he's fully recovered from his knee problems, and a change of scenery (not only to a title contender, but also after all the controversy surrounding him in Washington) should motivate him. Arenas is a big upgrade over recently-traded Vince Carter, and his arrival should see recently-acquired Jason Richardson start at small forward.

What does it give the Washington Wizards
The Wizards are a team in transition, and moving Arenas made sense on several fronts. They not only get rid of the bad press and bad memories from Arenas' gun incident and his longtime injuries, but they add an All-Star scoring small forward in Lewis. For now this move should mean Kirk Hinrich can start regularly at 2-guard (next to point guard John Wall), and it frees up shots and playing time in the backcourt for the promising Nick Young. This isn't an upgrade talent-wise for the Wiz, but it does give them more balance in their rotation and puts their Arenas troubles behind them.
