DENVER SENDS SIEMIAN TO MINNY
The Minnesota Vikings acquired quarterback Trevor Siemian and a 7th-round draft pick in 2018 from the Denver Broncos for a 5th-round draft pick in 2019.
What does it give the Minnesota Vikings
Minny has gone through a major overhaul of its quarterback corps this off-season, with star Kirk Cousins joining the fold. Siemian will be his backup, and it's a strong pairing that should give the Vikes a real shot at a Super Bowl. Siemian's price tag is fairly low salary-wise as well, so this is a nice depth addition.
What does it give the Denver Broncos
Interestingly, former Vikings QB Case Keenum has taken over as the starter for Denver--effectively replacing Siemian, who started 10 games for the Broncos last season. Denver still has talented backup Paxton Lynch around, so Siemian became expendable. This deal moves out Siemian's salary, giving the Broncos more roster and financial flexibility this off-season.
Fantasy impact
Siemian obviously takes a major hit to his fantasy fortunes with this move to full-time backup status behind a star (Cousins). It also provides a minor boost to Lynch, who now has less competition if Keenum either gets injured or struggles with Denver.
