PATS PICK UP VET JASON MCCOURTY FROM BROWNS

The New England Patriots acquired cornerback Jason McCourty and a 7th-round draft pick in 2018 from the Cleveland Browns for a 6th-round draft pick in 2018.

What does it give the New England Patriots
The Patriots lost former cornerback stalwart Malcolm Butler to free agency (he signed with Tennessee), and McCourty is his replacement. The dependable McCourty joins his brother Devin McCourty in the New England secondary, and should be a key rotational performer and starter.

What does it give the Cleveland Browns
The Browns are pretty much overhauling their roster this off-season, and added Damarious Randall in another deal this off-season (making McCourty an expendable member of the secondary). The slight draft pick upgrade helps the teams rebuild, as does dropping McCourty's salary.

Fantasy impact
McCourty is a quality veteran performer but he doesn't have much fantasy value (even in leagues featuring Individual Defensive Players, because he's not a high-volume tackler). There's little to no fantasy impact with this trade.
