EAGLES ADD STALLWORTH

The Philadelphia Eagles acquired wide receiver Donte' Stallworth from the New Orleans Saints for linebacker Mark Simoneau and a conditional 2007 fourth-round draft pick.

What does it give the Philadelphia Eagles
A potential star option at a key position for their offense. The Eagles focus on the pass more often than most NFL teams, and after training camp they had no clear-cut star as their downfield threat. Reggie Brown shows some promise, but he's not as accomplished as Stallworth. Adding a player of Stallworth's caliber really helps balance out the Philly offense, giving them another top-tier target for Donovan McNabb. He's one of the fastest players in the NFL, so he might be the replacement for Terrell Owens the team has been looking for.

What does it give the New Orleans Saints
A high-character, hard-working linebacker in Simoneau who may challenge for a starting spot. The Saints have a shaky defense at best, and it has been particularly porous in the preseason. Simoneau can help shore that up, even though he wasn't a starter in Philly. The Saints still have Joe Horn, Devery Henderson and Bethel Johnson around, so they figured Stallworth was expendable in the passing game. The 2007 pick is added compensation since the Eagles are getting the player with higher upside.
