DENVER DEALS KEENUM TO D.C.

The Washington Redskins acquired quarterback Case Keenum and a seventh-round draft pick in 2020 from the Denver Broncos for a sixth-round draft pick in 2020.

What does it give the Washington Commanders
The Redskins had little choice but to add a veteran quarterback in the off-season, since Alex Smith's future is very much in doubt after suffering a serious leg injury late last season. Keenum was sensational for Minnesota in 2017, and very mediocre for Denver in 2018. He will get first dibs on replacing Smith in 2019, though he will likely face stiff competition from perennial backup Colt McCoy and possibly a rookie from this year's draft class.

What does it give the Denver Broncos
The Broncos decided to part ways with Keenum after only one season as the team's starting quarterback (preferring to make another trade for former Ravens starter Joe Flacco). Since Keenum under-performed in Denver, and his reputation was questionable to begin with, the Broncos did not receive much in return for his services. That said, the team wanted to move on quickly so this was the best they could do. At the end of the day, Flacco is the better QB.

Fantasy impact
Keenum is going to enter '19 as arguably the worst starting quarterback in the NFL (assuming he actually starts over McCoy et al). So, he should only be considered a fantasy option in deep leagues (or 2-QB formats). Otherwise, he should left on the waiver wire until further notice.
