TANNEHILL TRADED TO TENNESSEE
The Tennessee Titans acquired quarterback Ryan Tannehill and a sixth-round draft pick in 2019 from the Miami Dolphins for a seventh-round draft pick in 2019 and a fourth-round draft pick in 2020.
What does it give the Tennessee Titans
In Tannehill, the Titans land a good fit for the backup quarterback position. That is because he is similar to starter Marcus Mariota (both can run very well and both excel when running a read-option offense). Therefore, this is a good move by a Tennessee team that has seen Mariota miss a lot of time due to injury recently. Tannehill becomes an important insurance policy for the franchise.
What does it give the Miami Dolphins
It was apparent from the get-go that Miami's new regime, led by head coach and former New England defensive coordinator Brian Flores, that Tannehill was not in the team's plans moving forward. So, the Dolphins got back a fourth rounder for the future, while downgrading one pick in this year's draft. Miami will almost certainly draft a QB in the first round either in this year's draft or in 2020.
Fantasy impact
Tannehill's fantasy value has obviously taken a massive hit after this trade, though he now becomes arguably the best QB handcuff of 2019 (due to Mariota's running tendencies and propensity to get hurt). Miami's starter in '19 is now unknown but it might be a first-round draft pick this year such as Dwayne Haskins or Kyler Murray. Stay tuned!
