TEXANS TRADE CLOWNEY TO SEATTLE!

The Seattle Seahawks acquired defensive end/linebacker Jadeveon Clowney from the Houston Texans for linebackers Barkevious Mingo and Jacob Martin and a third-round draft pick in 2020.

What does it give the Seattle Seahawks
In Clowney, the Seahawks land a quality (if a tad overrated) edge rusher who should fit in nicely in Seattle, since he seems a bit more comfortable as a 4-3 end than as a 3-4 linebacker. In Seattle, Clowney will be responsible for generating plenty of pressure on the quarterback. He will either replace the rehabbing Ezekiel Ansah or work in tandem with the former Lion.

What does it give the Houston Texans
For the Texans, who were attempting to upgrade their offensive line in any Clowney trade, they instead settled for a potential Clowney replacement in either Mingo or Martin and a third-rounder. That is not a great haul for the player Houston slapped the franchise tag on this year. There will be loads of criticism in the Houston media over this trade, so the Texans better hope Clowney does not shine in Seattle.

Fantasy impact
Clowney could thrive in Seattle and he might become the central pass-rushing figure as a Seahawk, something he never was in Houston due to the presence of J.J. Watt. Mingo will try to replace Clowney but he must first earn playing time ahead of Whitney Mercilus and Brennan Scarlett at outside linebacker. Martin adds depth to Houston's linebacker corps and may see some snaps as an edge rusher as well. Both Mingo and Martin are in a better fantasy situation after the trade, but that may not be saying much.
