PANTHERS, CHARGERS SWAP O-LINEMEN
The Carolina Panthers acquired offensive tackle Russell Okung from the Los Angeles Chargers for offensive guard Trai Turner.
What does it give the Carolina Panthers
Protecting Cam Newton's blindside has been problematic for the Panthers for quite some time now. Therefore, Okung should be able to help Carolina significantly in that area (as long as he stays healthy). Of course, Okung may not be protecting Newton (a potential trade or release candidate) in 2020 but he is a clear upgrade at left tackle no matter who is under center for the Panthers.
What does it give the Los Angeles Chargers
The Chargers are being proactive with this move, as current right guard Michael Schofield is a pending free agent (and was expected to explore the market). Turner should step in and provide quality guard play for an LA team that has struggled with offensive line continuity and consistency in recent years. He makes Schofield obsolete. To replace Okung, the Bolts may use an early draft pick on a left tackle.
Fantasy impact
This deal could improve the O-line play of both the Panthers and Chargers, so there may be indirect fantasy implications here.
