PITTSBURGH PICKS UP WILLIAMSON

The Pittsburgh Penguins acquired linebacker Avery Williamson and a seventh-round draft pick in 2022 from the New York Jets for a fifth-round draft pick in 2022.

What does it give the Pittsburgh Steelers
This is a good deal for Pittsburgh, since the team recently lost the services of impact inside linebacker Devin Bush to injury. Veteran Williamson should help provide better depth at the two inside positions at linebacker for the Steelers. Look for Williamson to become a starter with his new team by the end of 2020.

What does it give the New York Jets
For the Jets, they continue to deal away veterans for draft picks (or draft pick upgrades) during this forgettable season. It is the right thing to do under the current circumstances. New York has plenty of depth at inside linebacker, so Williamson should not be missed too much.

Fantasy impact
Williamson needs to play a lot of snaps in Pittsburgh to maintain his IDP value, since he was playing regularly in New York (although without making much of an impact). He has a chance to become more of a playmaker in Pittsburgh, so keep an eye on him for the rest of this season.
