COLTS DEAL FOR CARSON WENTZ!

The Indianapolis Colts acquired quarterback Carson Wentz from the Philadelphia Eagles for a third-round draft pick in 2021 and a conditional second-round draft pick in 2022.

What does it give the Indianapolis Colts
This trade makes sense for Indianapolis, whose last three starting quarterbacks (Andrew Luck, Jacoby Brissett and Philip Rivers) either retired or became a free agent. Wentz could rebound with the Colts, especially since he will be reunited with head coach Frank Reich (his former offensive coordinator in Philadelphia). That said, there is some work to do here because Wentz fell off a cliff by the end of his Eagles stint. Still, it is a worthwhile gamble for a team that did not have any in-house alternatives at QB.

What does it give the Philadelphia Eagles
For the Eagles, the important thing here is to move on from Wentz. This team will now feature Jalen Hurts as the starting quarterback, while possibly looking for a veteran backup this off-season. Philadelphia may have wanted more in return for Wentz, but his contract made that an impossibility. Philly may take a slight step back with a second-year quarterback under center, but they should be much better off without the ugly Wentz contract hovering over them. This is a trade the Eagles simply had to make.

Fantasy impact
This trade really benefits both Wentz and Hurts, as both are likely to be starting quarterbacks in the NFL for several years to come. That said, both have to answer a few questions in 2021. Neither is an elite fantasy QB going into next season, but both are decent options. Hurts' running ability likely makes him slightly more desirable than Wentz at this time.
