MOSS HEADS TO NEW ENGLAND
The New England Patriots acquired wide receiver Randy Moss from the Oakland Raiders for a fourth-round pick in the 2007 draft (No. 110 overall).
What does it give the New England Patriots
A big-contract, big-play receiver who has a lot to prove at this point of his career. What to prove? First, that he is still an elite receiver. Mr. Bad Moon has declined in every year since 2005, and hasn't made a Pro Bowl since 2003. He hasn't scored double-digit touchdowns since 2004, and has just one 1,000-yard receiving year in his past three (and it was barely 1,000). Moss really needed a change of scenery, but New England is probably the best place for him to revive his career. He can line up alongside Donte' Stallworth and give the Pats potentially the best receiving game in the NFL. The bottom line: He can be the next Terrell Owens (in both the good sense, and the bad).
What does it give the Las Vegas Raiders
A somewhat unimpressive draft position for a player who was once the NFL's most exciting player. Then again, they get to dump his salary and get rid of a long-standing headache. Moss never panned out in Oakland, and while the player they get with the pick has some upside (super-speedster John Bowie) this move is somewhat of a case of the Raiders writing off an experiment that didn't work out. What they lose in talent, they will gain in positive clubhouse energy and financial security.
