MCNABB TO WASHINGTON

The Washington Football Team acquired quarterback Donovan McNabb from the Philadelphia Eagles for a second-round draft pick in 2010 and a fourth-round draft pick in 2011.

What does it give the Washington Commanders
After scoring just 16.6 points per game last season the Redskins obviously want to jump-start their offense for 2010. With Mike Shanahan now their head coach, the team is loading up on established offensive veterans (including Larry Johnson and Willie Parker) and McNabb becomes the centerpiece in that trend. The Redskins obviously want to win right away and McNabb can certainly help with that; but the team does still need to beef up their dismal offensive line to protect him, as well as figure out what to do now with former starter Jason Campbell.

What does it give the Philadelphia Eagles
Philly still has several talented, young core offensive building blocks (in DeSean Jackson, Jeremy Maclin, LeSean McCoy, and Brent Celek) so they should be able to continue playing well even with McNabb out of the picture. New starting QB Kevin Kolb showed promise while filling in for McNabb in two starts last season, and should be able to get good production out of that group; if not, Michael Vick will get a chance to step in. Either way the Eagles still have many quality options in their unique set-up, and they save a lot of money here by moving the aging McNabb while adding what could be a 2010 starter at another position (with the 2nd-round draft pick).
