WHITEHURST TO SEATTLE

The Seattle Seahawks acquired quarteback Charlie Whitehurst and a second-round draft pick in 2010 from the San Diego Chargers for a second-round draft pick in 2010 and a third-round draft pick in 2011.

What does it give the Seattle Seahawks
With current starting quarterback Matt Hasselbeck aging and injury-prone (and longtime backup Seneca Wallace recently traded to Cleveland) the Seahawks needed an eventual successor at their most important position. Enter Whitehurst, who has a lot of untapped talent and has already signed an extension with the Seahawks. If Hasselbeck gets injured during the upcoming season, expect Whitehurst to step in and start auditioning to be the eventual No.1 under center.

What does it give the San Diego Chargers
The Chargers move up in the second round of this year's NFL Draft (from No.60 to No.40) while adding the third-rounder next season. San Diego does a great job of scouting talent, and while they probably would have liked to keep Whitehurst, he was a restricted free agent (meaning he would have been somewhat expensive to retain) and the Chargers already have Billy Volek backing up starter Philip Rivers.
