SHAQ LAWSON LANDS IN NEW YORK

The New York Jets acquired defensive end/linebacker Shaq Lawson from the Houston Texans for a sixth-round draft pick in 2022.

What does it give the New York Jets
For the Jets, this deal makes sense because Lawson will help replace the team's two projected starting edge rushers (Carl Lawson and Vinny Curry, who will both be out for the entire 2021 campaign). Shaq Lawson is not as good as Carl Lawson, but this is a good move for the young Jets.

What does it give the Houston Texans
The Texans decided to move on from Lawson, mostly because he was projected to serve a backup role with Houston this season. Instead, they traded him for a future late-round draft pick. Lawson had been acquired from Miami for linebacker Benardrick McKinney.

Fantasy impact
S. Lawson could be a last-round flier option in very deep leagues that utilize individual defensive players (IDP) instead of team defenses. However, the Jets remain a very suspect defense without C. Lawson and Curry.
