GILMORE GOES TO CAROLINA
The Carolina Panthers acquired cornerback Stephon Gilmore from the New England Patriots for a sixth-round draft pick in 2023.
What does it give the Carolina Panthers
In Gilmore, the Panthers get one of the best shutdown cornerbacks in football. Full stop. However, he will not be available right away because he is currently on the PUP list and will only be eligible to play after two more games. Carolina has recently added both Gilmore and C.J. Henderson to help at corner, which should help them in their quest to win the NFC South.
What does it give the New England Patriots
The Patriots were expected to release Gilmore, so getting anything in return for his services should be considered some kind of victory. It freed up enough cap space to acquire veteran linebacker Jamie Collins. With Gilmore gone, J.C. Jackson and Jalen Mills will probably continue to man the corner positions for the Patriots this season.
Fantasy impact
In a few weeks, Gilmore will make his Panthers debut. However, he is not automatically a must-own defensive back in IDP leagues. Take a wait-and-see approach with Gilmore.
