STIDHAM SENT TO LAS VEGAS

The Las Vegas Raiders acquired quarterback Jarrett Stidham and a seventh-round draft pick in 2023 from the New England Patriots for a sixth-round draft pick in 2023.

What does it give the Las Vegas Raiders
The Raiders are adding a little depth at the quarterback position in the form of Stidham, who will reunite with his former offensive coordinator in New England in new head coach Josh McDaniels. Because of his familiarity with the offense, look for Stidham to take over as the backup to Derek Carr (ahead of journeymen Garrett Gilbert and Nick Mullens).

What does it give the New England Patriots
For the Patriots, moving Stidham paves the way for 2022 fourth-round pick Bailey Zappe to crack the roster this season. New England also has veteran Brian Hoyer and rookie utility player D'Eriq King behind starting quarterback Mac Jones. The Pats will receive a late-round draft pick upgrade here, so this move is mostly designed to create roster space for incoming rookies.

Fantasy impact
Stidham could be a decent handcuff option for Derek Carr fantasy owners in 2022. He has far more upside than either Gilbert or Mullens.
