LIONS ADD DEPTH AT QB

The Detroit Lions acquired quarterback Shaun Hill from the San Francisco 49ers for a 2011 seventh-round draft pick.

What does it give the Detroit Lions
With Daunte Culpepper likely gone, the Lions can insert Hill behind rising star Matt Stafford. Hill is more of a classic backup than Culpepper was and while he won't likely push Stafford for starts the way Culpepper, his clear role helps clarify the team's depth chart going forward. He can also provide the occasional quality start if needed.

What does it give the San Francisco 49ers
San Fran's recent signing of David Carr to push Alex Smith at quarterback made Hill expendable, especially with young Nate Davis also in the fold. So ultimately the Niners save a little money by moving Hill and get a little something in return for him rather than just dumping him.
