FITZPATRICK HEADS TO CINCY
The Cincinnati Bengals acquired quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick from the St. Louis Rams for a conditional draft pick.
What does it give the Cincinnati Bengals
The Bengals cut Doug Johnson after being unimpressed with his preseason performance, opening up the need for a new backup to Carson Palmer. Fitzpatrick is an intelligent and somewhat proven understudy who has performed well in a similarly pass-heavy system in St.Loo. He is still improving and is not a bad option should Palmer go down with another significant injury.
What does it give the St. Louis Rams
The Rams don't get much here for a guy who was once considered the heir apparent to Marc Bulger, but the old Ram regime was more impressed with Fitzpatrick than the new one is. Gus Frerotte is entrenched as Bulger's No.2 these days, so it seems there just wasn't enough room for all three.
