BEARS SEND QB FIELDS TO THE STEELERS

The Pittsburgh Steelers acquired quarterback Justin Fields from the Chicago Bears for a conditional sixth-round draft pick in 2025.

What does it give the Pittsburgh Steelers
Fields provides the Steelers with a serviceable quarterback who appears likely to back up newly-signed veteran Russell Wilson (at least for 2024). Fields is only 25 and still has room to improve, so this is a low-risk, high-reward trade for the Steelers and only at the cost of a late-round draft pick. Down the road, this trade could become an absolute steal for Pittsburgh if Fields fulfills his immense potential.

What does it give the Chicago Bears
Chicago continues the off-season roster shake-up, moving on from Fields just days after bringing in Keenan Allen from the Chargers. Fields gave the Bears mixed results over three seasons as their QB. Clearly, it was not enough and Chicago will look for another starter in the 2024 draft. Fields did not possess much trade value, but even this return (a conditional sixth-round draft pick) is rather disappointing.

Fantasy impact
With an uncertain role in 2024, Fields is not a safe bet for fantasy managers at this time. Even in Chicago, he was not a top-tier fantasy quarterback, although he has always had elite rushing ability. A change of scenery could be just what he needs. Wait and see on how the quarterback situation plays out in Pittsburgh before giving Fields another shot.
