BUCS DEAL PICK FOR QB McCOWN

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers acquired quarterback Luke McCown from the Cleveland Browns in exchange for a sixth-round pick in the 2005 draft.

What does it give the Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Yet another live young arm to compete in their QB sweepstakes. The Bucs are far from set behind center with veteran Brian Griese the incumbent. Tampa Bay seems to be finally be giving some attention to their woeful attack, and McCown provides added incentive for either Griese or young Chris Simms to step up and take over. Just 23, McCown still hes lots of upside but didn't show he's ready for prime time in a brief audition with the Browns in 2004.

What does it give the Cleveland Browns
A draft pick they can use to fill holes other than quarterback. The Browns seem committed to new starting play-caller Trent Dilfer and have him locked into a multi-year deal. McCown fell down the depth chart when Dilfer came onboard and the Browns already have a young protegee waiting in the wings 22-year-old Josh Harris. They obviously feel McCown is a talent they can afford to let go.
