BILLS GAMBLE ON TARVARIS JACKSON

The Buffalo Bills acquired quarterback Tarvaris Jackson from the Seattle Seahawks for an undisclosed draft pick.

What does it give the Buffalo Bills
Somewhat of an insurance policy as a potential backup quarterback, especially after the Bills released {p Vince Young} shortly before confirming the deal with Seattle. Jackson, once tagged as a franchise quarterback, had more lows than highs in his six NFL seasons thus far but the Bills hope he’ll be able to give some competition to {p Tyler Thigpen} as the official team backup behind clear-cut starter {p Ryan Fitzpatrick}. He still brings a good skill-set to the table but his inconsistency is worrisome. However, it didn’t cost the Bills much to get him so the gamble isn’t that risky and could be well-rewarded.

What does it give the Seattle Seahawks
An undisclosed draft pick is not much but it’s still better than nothing. Though he started 14 games last season, Jackson was simply out of the running for a job in Seattle (with rookie {p Russell Wilson} now the starter while {p Matt Flynn} being the backup) so whoever they get with the draft pick has to be considered as a bonus.

Fantasy impact
Very little impact here unless Jackson is able to beat Thigpen for the backup role AND Fitzpatrick gets injured during the season. But even so, don’t expect much better numbers than he posted in Seattle last year with a QB rating of 79.2.
