PATRIOTS PICK UP SALAS FROM ST. LOO

The New England Patriots acquired wide receiver Greg Salas from the St. Louis Rams for a 2015 undisclosed draft pick.

What does it give the New England Patriots
Salas played for Patriots Offensive Coordinator {B Josh McDaniels} when the two were in St. Louis, and he's a gritty, underrated target who knows McDaniels' plays and can get tough yards. New England has {P Brandon Lloyd} and {P Wes Welker} starting with multi-purpose player {P Julian Edelman} the only notable backup, so Salas brings much-needed depth to the group.

What does it give the St. Louis Rams
St. Louis has two quality veteran wideouts starting for them in {P Danny Amendola} and {P=8484 Steve Smith}, and with talented rookie {P Brian Quick} also around (along with {P Brandon Gibson}, {P Austin Pettis}, and {P Chris Givens}) the Rams had a glut of wide receiver options. Getting at least something here (in the pick) for a player who wasn't in their plans is a nice bonus for St. Louis (as is dropping Salas' salary).

Fantasy impact
Salas was productive enough last year that landing in the high-powered New England offense gives him some deep sleeper appeal. If either Welker or Lloyd gets injured, Salas is a fantasy must-add. Still, even if the starters stay healthy all season, Salas is worth keeping on the fantasy radar for 2012. He won't likely put up huge yardage numbers but he has the potential to be a sneaky-good producer.
