WIDEOUT MURPHY PACKS FOR PANTHERS
The Carolina Panthers acquired wide receiver Louis Murphy from the Oakland Raiders for an undisclosed draft pick.
What does it give the Carolina Panthers
{P Cam Newton} is a rising star at quarterback for the Panthers but he had just one receiver with more than 50 catches last season (veteran star {P=1803 Steve Smith}). If Murphy can stay healthy he may be a steal, and he has the talent to chellenge {P Brandon LaFell} and {P David Gettis} for the starting possession receiver spot opposite Smith if he impresses in training camp. Solid low-risk move here by the Panthers.
What does it give the Las Vegas Raiders
Murphy got off to a very slow start last season due to a groin injury and eventually became somewhat of an afterthought in Oakland's pass attack. With second-year wideout {P Denarius Moore} stepping up and with {P Darrius Heyward-Bey} and {P Jacoby Ford} also emerging, Murphy became expendable and moving him saves the Raiders some money. Look for rookie {P Juron Criner} to see a few more looks going forward.
