PATRIOTS LAND RB BLOUNT FROM TB

The New England Patriots acquired running back LeGarrette Blount from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for running back Jeff Demps and a seventh-round draft pick in 2013.

What does it give the New England Patriots
The Patriots are usually very good at recycling talent, and Blount definitely needed a change of scenery. He's not an ideal fit in New England's pass-happy offense but he should help with short-yardage duty and whenever the Pats have to work the clock with a big lead. He probably will be behind {P Stevan Ridley} and {P Shane Vereen} on the depth chart but could move up.

What does it give the Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Bucs no longer needed Blount around with {P Doug Martin} around, so they parted ways here and landed a project in Demps and late-round pick in Round 7. Demps is a world-class athlete who is very raw as a football player. He could factor in as a return man but is not likely to be much of a running back option for Tampa Bay going forward. This was mostly about getting rid of Blount.

Fantasy impact
Blount is not likely to become a workhorse again in New England, but the change of scenery should help his fantasy value at the very least. He also may become somewhat of a toughdown specialist for New England, so he definitely enters 2013 with sleeper appeal. Demps is too raw to be a fantasy factor at this time.
