BILLS, LIONS ADD DEPTH IN QB LEWIS, LB WHITE

The Buffalo Bills acquired quarterback Thaddeus Lewis from the Detroit Lions for linebacker Chris White.

What does it give the Buffalo Bills
Injury-prone veteran QB {P Kevin Kolb} suffered what looks like a serious concussion recently, and with expected starter {P=18706 E.J. Manuel} temporarily sidelined by a knee issue, Buffalo's only healthy quarterback is unheralded rookie {P Jeff Tuel}. Manuel should be back soon, but even when he returns he is highly unproven. Assuming Kolb is out for awhile the Bills did well to bolster their veteran depth under center with Lewis. They have also signed {P Matt Leinart}, who may well end up being the team's starter at some point this season.

What does it give the Detroit Lions
With {P Cory Greenwood} going on Injured Reserve recently (due to a shoulder injury), the less-than-deep Detroit linebacker corps got even thinner. Enter White, a solid backup who still has some upside and can fill in at several spots. Lewis didn't look likely to make the Lions this season (with {P Kellen Moore} stepping up to back up vets {P Matthew Stafford} and {P Shaun Hill}), so adding White is a good move here by the Lions.

Fantasy impact
Even if Kolb is out of the picture for Buffalo, Lewis still appears to be the Bills' fourth-string QB going forward (behind Maunel, eventually Leinart, then Tuel, in that order). In other words, he holds little if any fantasy upside for 2013. The same goes for White, who might see a little boost in playing time but isn't likely to push for regular minutes or starts with his new team in Detroit.
