RAIDERS LAND VETERAN QB SCHAUB
The Oakland Raiders acquired quarterback Matt Schaub from the Houston Texans for a sixth-round draft pick in 2014.
What does it give the Las Vegas Raiders
The Raiders have decided to continue to go the short-term route with regards to their starting quarterbacks, as Schaub is the overwhelming favorite to start immediately in Oakland. He's a serviceable game manager who played well for a while on a very strong Houston team, but ultimately imploded last season. Oakland is now expected to take a non-quarterback with the No. 5 overall pick in this May's draft. This move means the end to the mediocre QB competition between {P Terrelle Pryor} and {P Matt McGloin} in Oakland.
What does it give the Houston Texans
This was an inevitable move for Texans GM {B Rick Smith}, since the Texans recently signed {P Ryan Fitzpatrick} to (at least) compete for the starting quarterback job. Therefore, Schaub was shipped to the Raiders for a sixth rounder (instead of being released outright). Houston may decide to take a quarterback with the first pick in this year's draft, or perhaps take one later on in the selection process. Either way, Fitzpatrick made Schaub utterly expendable. Good move here by Houston.
Fantasy impact
Schaub's already-sinking fantasy value just got worse, since Oakland has very little talent on offense. They'll likely re-emphasize the running game with {P Darren McFadden} in 2014, which is great news for the latter but bad news for Schaub. The big winner here could be Fitzpatrick if he is able to win the starting job in Houston, which he will if they don't draft a QB first overall.
