BRONCOS BRING IN MCMANUS TO FILL IN FOR PRATER

The Denver Broncos acquired kicker Brandon McManus from the New York Giants for a conditional future 7th-round draft pick.

What does it give the Denver Broncos
The four-game suspension that starting kicker and star {P Matt Prater} will serve to open this season necessitated promoting another kicker to replace him. That kicker wasn't rookie {P=14335 Mitch Ewald}, who has been waived. Look for Prater to get the job back when his four games are served--meaning McManus will likely get, at best, four games in the role.

What does it give the New York Giants
McManus has some upside but the Giants are set at kicker with {P Josh Brown}, so they at least get a little something here for a player who likely wouldn't have been kept around when final rosters are set. The condition of the draft pick is that McManus stays on as Denver's kicker after Prater returns, and since that's highly unlikely (considering how excellent Prater is), there's a definite chance McManus might wind up back with the Giants eventually.

Fantasy impact
Prater is worth stashing in fantasy leagues for when he gets back from his suspension. Meanwhile McManus--who has a strong leg--brings definite early-season sleeper appeal after landing on one of the NFL's highest-scoring teams.
