JETS GET STACY FROM ST. LOUIS
The New York Jets acquired running back Zac Stacy from the St. Louis Rams for a seventh-round draft pick in 2015.
What does it give the New York Jets
Stacy has shown he can produce as a featured NFL back, but he probably has an uphill climb to win the Jets' starting job. Chris Ivory and recently-signed Stevan Ridley appear to be ahead of Stacy on the depth chart, and all three are similar in style (as power backs). What's clear is the Jets are interested in a power running style, and Stacy can be part of that rotation (possibly pushing for starts if Ridley isn't fully healed from his ACL surgery early on).
What does it give the St. Louis Rams
The Rams this week drafted potential star Todd Gurley to be their new cornerstone tailback, and with talented Tre Mason likely Gurley's backup, Stacy became the clear odd man out. St. Louis used the 7th-rounder they got in this deal to draft linebacker Bryce Hager, who's a tackling demon type with some sleeper potential--so the Rams do fairly well in this swap.
Fantasy impact
Stacy's fantasy fortunes don't change much at all in this deal. While he gets a desired change of scenery, he's still the third running back on a depth chart (although in New York he at least has a fresh start, with a new coaching staff). Consider him a late-round super sleeper type. Hager doesn't hold any fantasy value yet, but is a great tackler (so might have some radar-worthy appeal--in leagues featuring individual defensive players--as a free agent pickup if he finds himself playing regularly in 2015).
