BOYS ADD EXTRA WIDEOUT

The Dallas Cowboys acquired wide receiver Charlie Adams from the Denver Broncos for an undisclosed draft pick in 2007.

What does it give the Dallas Cowboys
A true sleeper of a receiver who may surprise some Dallas fans. Adams didn't get much college hype starring for Hofstra, but he had enough potential a year ago to force the retirement of Jerry Rice. His combination of size and speed is uncommon, and while he's still a little raw, he's a hard worker and is getting better. Dallas had their hand forced a little by minor injuries to their top three of Terrell Owens, Terry Glenn, and Patrick Crayton. Adams has the raw talent to push Crayton for the No. 3 role, and may eventually become a starter if he continues to work hard. He was used mostly as a possession guy with Denver, but has the versatility to do more and also return kicks.

What does it give the Denver Broncos
Not much, but at least a way to clear up their muddled receiver situation. With Javon Walker and Rod Smith the clear starters for the Broncos and Darius Watts showing marked improvement, the Broncos didn't have a place for Adams anymore. They also have young depth in Domenik Hixon and both Ashley Lelie and David Terrell are still around (and have the talent to start). Adams was simply the odd man out in a situation that demanded a little clarity before the regular season gets started.
