VIKINGS GRAB JARED ALLEN

The Minnesota Vikings acquired defensive end Jared Allen and a 2008 sixth-round draft pick from the Kansas City Chiefs for a 2008 first-round draft pick, two third-round picks and a sixth-round pick.

What does it give the Minnesota Vikings
He comes at a pretty hefty overall price, but there's no question Allen is the top defensive end in the game right now. He's also in his prime at 26, and while he has some charcter issues he will give the aggressive Minny defense a dominant playmaker. The Vikes got killed by quarterbacks picking them apart last year and they desperately needed a top-tier edge rusher to make their high-pressure defense work better. So overall, this is a smart (albeit risky) personnel move.

What does it give the Kansas City Chiefs
The Chiefs not only add a potential future star with the No.17 overall pick, they avoid having to pay the king's ransom that would have come with keeping Allen. The Chiefs now appear to be in rebuilding mode, but they already had a first-rounder so they could make big strides very quickly with the three added picks. They also avoid having to gamble on a risky player in Allen going forward.
